Energy Saving Trust advice centres

TADEA delivers the contract for two Energy Saving Trust advice centres – the North East and Cumbria & Lancashire. The Energy Saving Trust advice centre is part of a national network funded by the Energy Saving Trust to provide free, impartial and locally relevant advice to householders. 

Advice on energy saving in  the home, renewable energy and transport energy is delivered with the aim of helping householders reduce their energy consumption, make their homes more comfortable and reduce their fuel bills.  We can also provide tips on water wastage, household waste reduction and recycling.   Photobucket

The Energy Saving Trust advice centre offers an extensive range of experience and expertise in energy saving advice. 

The centre is an independent, non-profit making organisation that acts as a bridge from government to consumers, businesses, local authorities and the energy market.

The Advice Service 

With a vision that every home will be a low carbon one by 2050, the Energy Saving Trust’s mission is to lead 60 million UK citizens to act on climate change by leading a low carbon lifestyle. The Energy Saving Trust advice centre leads in the delivery of this mission on a local level by: Photobucket

·           Running the Act on CO2 helpline – 0800 512 012 – which gives:

Energy efficiency, renewable, transport, waste and water advice.

Completion of a home energy check generating a personalised home energy report giving householders an A-G rating on the home along with practical advice on how this rating can be improved.

Fuel poverty advice.

Details of the latest grants and offers for installing energy saving measures such as cavity wall and loft insulation and referral onto the most suitable schemes.

A dedicated outreach events team available to offer the above advice on-site at local events or work place initiatives.

Working with Local Authorities

The Energy Saving Trust advice centre has a wealth of experience in working with local authorities.  The services and support we can offer are tailored to meet key priorities through the development of projects and include:

Local Authority One-to-One programme with in depth support to help mainstream sustainable energy throughout Local Authority functions.Photobucket

Mailing campaigns to gather stock information and promote grants.

Marketing support including internal and external communications campaigns.

Workshops to progress strategies and action plans through tailored seminars for staff and/or Councillors.

Briefing notes and case studies with access to a wide range of publications targeted at Local Authorities.

A free online National Indicator 186 guide.

Tracking action on carbon emissions (TrACE), a free tool that will record CO2 saving evidence for NI 186.

Delivering on National Indicator 187 including data collection, analysis and reporting.

Access to the Home Energy Efficiency Database (HEED) providing detailed information on housing stock.

The Housing Programme which offers guidance and technical expertise on new build and refurbishment.

Regular update via Practical help which offers free research services and support to local authorities.

The Energy Saving Trust advice centre offers access to a variety of business resources – most of which are available completely free. 

Organisations are increasingly keen to raise awareness among employees about energy issues in order to improve their profile as an organisation and deliver on Corporate Social Responsibility and environmental policies.  This in turn can enhance corporate reputation with stakeholders and customers and demonstrates a commitment to staff. 

The Energy Saving Trust advice centre offers a programme of activity that can be tailored to suit including:

Presentations and training sessions for staff and key groups such as Green Teams covering energy saving at home, work and whilst driving among other topics.

Internal communications and competitions.

Home energy checks for all employees to generate an impartial written report with an A-G rating their home and practical advice on improving this rating.

Working with Communities

Your local Energy Saving Trust advice centre is your first port of call, whether you are looking to get your new community project off the ground or developing your existing project.  Your local centre will be able to offer tailored specialist advice and access to a programme of national support.  The types of services and benefits we are able to offer include:

 Telephone and email advice and support to answer your questions, provide advice, research funding and help you find projects similar to your own.  Plus access to a host of documents and “How To” guides.

Photobucket Training courses for community members who want to improve their knowledge of energy efficiency and develop successful community energy projects. Courses range from entry level training for community groups just starting out, through to planning processes and income generation models for community energy projects well as detailed information on specific areas such as listed building implications.

Expert consultancy from experienced professionals.  The Energy Saving Trust can provide up to three days' support remotely or through site visits resulting in project reviews, reports and recommendations.

The Green Communities Annual Conference is a chance to meet other active communities.

Access to a comprehensive funding database with information on funding criteria and eligibility.

Regular communications including monthly e-news bulletins and a twice yearly newsletter from the Green Communities network.

Community carbon footprint tool gives you the ability to estimate your community’s carbon Photobucketfootprint at the start of your project and update it when local projects take effect.

Access to a variety of projects databases and case studies to facilitate the sharing of best practice with other community groups and publicise goals and achievements.

The Green Communities bursary offers up to £200 to help your community group develop an energy project. Funding can cover travel costs, events, equipment, room hire etc.

Green Communities Heroes is our GPhotobucketreen Communities award and recognition programme held in association with the Guardian newspaper.  Categories include “Best rural community” and “Outstanding contribution by an individual”.
