Lancaster district residents hoping to use the spring season to get their homes in order are being offered free insulation* to help prepare for future winters.
The insulation scheme is run by Lancaster District Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) and the not-for-profit sustainability organisation tadea, and will see up to 1,000 properties in the area fitted with cavity wall and loft insulation. Cavity wall insulation is one of the most cost-effective energy efficiency measures that can be taken in the home, as it can save around £135** each year on heating bills.
The campaign’s organisers are urging householders in the Lancaster district to sign
up and make the most of this offer while they can. They believe that the cold weather of recent weeks serves as a timely reminder of the importance of getting insulation installed.
Helen Harding, of Lune Road, Lancaster, was one of the first to benefit under this scheme. Mrs Harding’s house is an old property and was built without cavities, so installing cavity wall insulation was not an option. However, her extension, built much more recently, was perfectly suited to getting the work done. Already, the insulation is making a “big difference” to her daily life and she is feeling the benefits by staying much warmer at home.
She says:
“I decided to look into getting insulation fitted after I received a leaflet about it through my door. The extension was very cold before I had the insulation installed. I got it done around a month ago and already it has made a big difference to how it feels.
“I’ve noticed that I don’t need to have the heating on as much in the extension now that it is insulated. I’m sure it will make a big difference to my heating bill the next time it comes around.
“Getting the insulation fitted was no problem – the whole process from start to finish was very efficient and it all happened really quickly. Actually getting the insulation installed was easily completed within a day.”
Paul Jackson is tadea’s Chief Executive officer. He says:
“Everyone deserves to have a warm and healthy home, and people without insulation are always more likely to feel the worst effects of the British weather. This project is directly helping people in this district to keep warm at home, and we want to make sure that as many people as possible get involved so that they can enjoy the benefits of this scheme. Coming into spring, people tend to easily forget the low temperatures of winter. However, as recent cold snaps remind us, getting insulation installed is very important. It is never too late to sign up.
“By getting in touch and finding out more about this offer, people will be taking the first step to making their homes warmer and more comfortable places to live. They will also save money on their fuel bills – not just for this year but long into the future.”
